Part Part Whole Relationships
Part part whole diagrams are a great way to develop number sense within the operations of addition and subtraction and to understand that values can be composed of and decomposed into parts. With Math Stackers, your students are given a tool to build these part-part-whole relationships and interpret situations in their world.
Because of the design of Math Stackers blocks, your kids will be able to build models of word problems and connect their models to the pictorial and abstract representations that are often presented on paper. Try the following word problems with your class and build math thinkers today!
Zaia collected 10 seashells on the beach. She used 7 of them to decorate her sandcastle. How many seashells did she have leftover?
Jessie has 6 slices of apple. If she ate 2 of the slices, how many does she have left?
Bryson and Cody went fishing. Together they caught 9 fish. If Bryson caught 6 fish, how many fish did Cody catch?
Twelve 1st grade students voted for the superpower they would prefer most: invisibility OR the ability to fly. If five 1st graders voted for invisibility, how many voted to be able to fly?
The 2nd grade is hosting an event to plant trees in the neighborhood park. Their goal is to plant 14 trees. By noon that day, they had planted 9 trees, how many more do they need to plant to reach their goal?
Happy Math Stacking!
